Advantages:
* There is a three-fold speed advantage when cutting thinner materials-which is important, as 1.5mm gauge accounts for 60% of the 100 tons of steel processed per month-thicker metals can be cut efficiently as well.
For example, a recent job was completed in under six hours that would have taken four days to finish on the previous CO2 laser. It involved producing 125 units from 1.5 and 3mm stainless steel sheet for oil rig safety lights.
* Quality of cut is also better. Dimensional accuracy is within ±0.05mm, ensuring trouble-free bending and assembly of products. Additionally, no burrs are left on the material surface, eliminating the need to fettle components by hand, which can spoil their appearance.
* Significantly lower power consumption saves running costs, no expensive consumable gases are needed, and maintenance is simpler, providing further economies.
Working Principle:
Briefly, fiber laser light is created by banks of diodes. The light is channeled and amplified through fiber optic cable similar to that used for data transfer. The amplified light, on exiting the fiber cable, is collimated or straightened and then focused by a lens onto the material to be cut.
Creation of the light is 200% more efficient than via a traditional CO2 laser, and delivery is far simpler, with no expensive optical mirrors. The focusing lens, unlike on a conventional CO2 laser machine, is sealed in the cutting head and thus not a consumable item.
